Hi Everyone:)

Thank you for this awesome opportunity to learn and gain new skills. The content so far is great!! i appreciate those of you who have been pouring hours into this course to build it to what it is so far.

I am currently living in central Alberta and am new to growing within the past few years. I have a garden and after the course plan on building a greenhouse into my little operation:) I love finding new tips and tricks to better my garden and quality of harvests every year. Gardens bring people together and I enjoy the wisdom that is shared and the fellowship found with others of similar interests.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Korina Boettcher and I am a Project Manager here at Green Iglu. I live in Red Deer, AB and I have a shih tzu named Louie. I have had many different titles working here, I started out in Logistics, then Special Assignment Manager and finally my current title.

I have worked in several amazing communities this season such as Bilijk, NB; Kagawong, ON and here in Red Deer with the Food Bank. My background is logistics and management. I am working on growing my own Indigenous Medicinal Garden this fall, with the hopes that I will be able to grow and create my own tobbaco ties and sweet grass offerings when I visit new communities.

Wild herbs and medicinal plants are becoming scarce, more people need to start growing their own.

Outside of Green Iglu I enjoy geocaching, kayaking and exploring.

Hi friends, I am Tara, the Operations Manager at Green Iglu. I live with my husband in Red Deer, along with our two cats and dog; I have lived in Alberta all my life. I have never been one to grow much, but I do love preserving, canning and pickling processes! I am passionate about taking steps to regain food security for every person, whether that be through foraging practices, growing a veggie garden, or taking what we are given from the land and using it well.

Outside of Green Iglu, I run my own pet care company, and I enjoy reading books, crafting and playing board games with friends.

Salutations! I am Jonathon, the communications coordinator for Green Iglu. My main role is helping to connect communities with the funding they need to take food security into their own hands. I have a background in English and a fascination with wording things in just the right way. Maybe it comes from my lineage. I am (according to my sister's genealogical research) a descendent of H.G. Wells, author of The Time Machine and The Invisible Man.

I believe in Green Iglu because I want everyone to do well and be happy -- and healthy food is a huge part of that. Many studies show that our physical and mental health are greatly impacted by diet. Consuming even modest amounts of healthy food goes a long way. No one should have to subsist on empty-calorie meals because of financial situation or geographic location. And the truth is that healthy food tastes great! For me, there is nothing better than fresh, salty hash browns or a plate of pineapple chunks.

In addition to my writing duties, I have assisted Green Iglu with a couple of greenhouse construction projects. It is inspiring to see volunteers of all ages step up to help out their communities. As more communities turn to local solutions, Green Iglu will be here to lend a hand.
