Green Iglu has officially partnered with the community of Listuguj to install two brand new Growing Domes. Listuguj is located in Gespe’gewa’gi (“The Last Land”), the seventh and largest district of Mi’gma’gi and the traditional territory of the Mi’gmaq and Listugujewaq. It includes what is now known as the Gaspé Peninsula, parts of mainland Québec and Maine, and northeastern New Brunswick. Listuguj comprises 4,058 people; with 2,108 people living on reserve and 1,950 people living off reserve.
This community greenhouse project includes two 26’ Growing Dome systems equipped with our standard vertical hydroponic units and raised soil beds. While the greenhouses will have the same growing capabilities as the Growing Domes in Naujaat and Arviat, they will primarily be used for educational purposes. Construction has already been completed! The domes are located at two locations in the community. One is located at the Alaqsite'w Gitpu School, and the other is located at the First Nations Regional Adult Education Centre (FNRAEC).
This expansion is Green Iglu’s first community greenhouse project outside of Nunavut and marks the next step towards our goal of working with Northern and remote communities in building local food infrastructure across the country. We’re very excited about the future of this partnership with Listuguj and we want to give a big congratulations to the community on their two brand new Growing Domes!
